The inaugural visit of the AVL to the newly refurbished Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre promised to be an exciting contest, with the WA Pearls looking to secure a finals place by taking on the reigning title holders, University Blues. The Pearls began the match with intensity and focus against a formidable Blues outfit, and consistent serve reception was the theme of WA's game throughout the match. After losing a tight first set, the Blues turned up the pressure and won the second with impressive offensive work by Hannah Martin and Eliza Smith. The match turned again with WA's blocking unit and defense improving throughout the third set, and after the Pearls took the third both teams put on an exciting display of desperation volleyball in the fourth set. Good saving plays by Gabby Seymour and Rochelle Sison kept the Blues in the match, but eventually it was young middle blocker Elysse Hislop who delivered an ace serve to secure the Pearls the set 30-28 and the match 3-1.
