Coach Quote (Away Team)
Gus Cirillo-Uni Blues "We played a lot better than we did last week against the storm, and I suppose the home ground advantage at the end of the day…it was a really close game, you couldn’t get any closer in the first set. A couple of situations where we were just out of the rotation where we wanted to be and basically that was the end of the game."

The WA Hornets and Univeristy Blues met in Mandurah for their second meeting of the AVL 2017 Southern Conference. The Hornets were looking to consolidate their first placing after round 8 with a pair of wins against the Blues, who hoped to boost their finals hopes after losses to Adelaide storm the previous round. Both teams put on a spectacular show throughout the match, with neither one able to gain significant momentum. Standout offensive performances from middle blockers Daniel Cohen (WA) and James Walsh (Blues) provided some highlight-reel grade spikes and the Blues' blocking unit headlined by Volleyroo Nehemiah Mote matched the Hornets' offense blow for blow. After WA took the first two sets, the Blues responded and forced the Hornets out of rhythm, sending the match to a fifth set. After such a close and exciting match, the fifth set fittingly was an exhibition in focus and desperation. After saving match points against them, the Hornets eventually took the set 20-18 and the match 3-2.
